Single Parent Holiday Ideas: Create Memories Before They Grow Up

Being a single parent doesn’t mean you have to miss out on family vacations. With a little planning, you can find ways to enjoy quality time with your kids while getting some much-needed rest and relaxation.

One option is to take a trip with other single parents and their children. This can be a great way to share parenting duties and make new friends.

There are also many resorts that cater specifically to parents, with amenities like babysitting services and kid-friendly activities.

Another possibility is to join a club or group that organizes group vacations for single parents and their children.

However you choose to do it, there are plenty of ways for single parents to enjoy a fun and relaxing vacation with their kids.

When it comes time to taking a holiday, there are many factors to consider in deciding where to go. If you live in a big city such as Sydney, there are often plenty of things to do right in your own backyard.

But sometimes it can be nice to get away from the hustle and bustle and explore somewhere new.

If you’re looking for a change of scenery but don’t want to spend a lot of money on airfare, there are plenty of great places to visit within driving distance.

Australia is a huge country with a lot to offer, so there’s no need to venture overseas if you’re looking for adventure.

If you do decide to fly, there are plenty of domestic airlines that offer discount fares, especially if you book in advance.

And finally, if you really want to get away from it all, consider taking a cruise. Cruises offer a great way to relax and see multiple destinations without having to deal with the hassle of packing and unpacking every few days.

No matter what your budget or travel preferences, there’s sure to be a holiday option that’s perfect for you.  I would recommend you read:  Single Parent Travel: The Ultimate Guide to the Best Holidays, which will help you prepare for your trip.

Where to go on holiday as a single parent

Local Holidays aka Staycations

Taking a staycation can be a great way for single parents to relax and recharge without having to deal with the hassle and expense of travel.

There are plenty of things to do right in your own backyard, and you can tailor your staycation to fit your budget and schedule.

One fun activity is to visit a local museum or art gallery. Many museums offer special programs and activities for kids, and they’re a great way to learn about art and history.

If the weather is nice, take advantage of it and go for a hike or picnic in a nearby park. There are also often playgrounds and other kid-friendly amenities at parks.

For older kids, you might want to plan some more adventurous activities, such as kayaking or riding a Segway.

And if you’re looking for something indoor to do on a rainy day, consider going to a trampoline park, bowling alley, or arcade.

There are plenty of great places to eat out with kids as well. For example, many pizza places have game rooms where kids can play while they wait for their food. Or you could try a restaurant with an outdoor patio where kids can run around while you relax and enjoy some adult conversation.

And don’t forget to schedule some time for yourself! Whether it’s reading a book by the pool or getting a massage, taking some time for yourself will help you return refreshed and ready to take on the challenges of parenting.

With a little planning, you can make your staycation fun for everyone in the family. So get out there and explore all that your city has to offer!

Single Parent Holiday Ideas for Road Trips

Taking a road trip can be a great way to bond with your kids, even if you’re doing it as a single parent. It can be tough to juggle everything on your own, but road trips offer a unique opportunity to spend some quality time together. Here are a few reasons to hit the open road with your kids:

First, road trips offer the chance to explore new places and have new experiences together. Whether you’re visiting iconic landmarks or just exploring the countryside, there’s plenty of learning to be done on a road trip. Your kids will love getting out and about, and you’ll enjoy watching their excitement as they take in all the new sights and sounds.

Second, road trips give you quality time together without distractions. In today’s world, it’s easy for families to get caught up in their own lives and neglect spending time together. But on a road trip, there’s nowhere else to go and nothing else to do but spend time with each other. You can chat, play games, listen to music, and just enjoy each other’s company without any outside interference.

Lastly, single parenting can be exhausting, and a road trip is the perfect opportunity to relax and recharge. Taking a break from your everyday routine will do you both good, and squeezing in some quality bonding time will make it all the more special. So go ahead and plan that road trip- your kids will love it, and you might just need it more than you realize.

Interstate Travel

Traveling with young children can be a daunting task for any parent, but it can be especially challenging for single parents. Taking an interstate trip by plane is one way to make the journey more manageable. Here are a few reasons why flying may be the best option when traveling with kids as a single parent:

First, flying eliminates the need to drive long distances with small children. This can be a huge relief, as it can be difficult to keep kids entertained and safe in the car for extended periods of time.

Second, flying also allows you to take advantage of airport amenities, such as stroller rentals and changing stations. These can be invaluable when traveling solo with kids.

Finally, most airlines offer child-friendly entertainment options, such as in-flight movies and TV shows. This can help to make the flight go by more quickly and peacefully for both you and your kids.

In short, there are many reasons to consider flying when traveling with young children as a single parent. With a little planning, an interstate trip by plane can be a relatively stress-free experience for both you and your kids.

Overseas Travel

Kids these days are growing up in a more globalized world than ever before. With the Internet and social media, they’re exposed to different cultures and lifestyles from all over the world. And as a single parent, it’s important to show them that there’s more to life than just what they see in their own neighborhood.

Taking them on an international trip is a great way to do that. They’ll get to see different places, meet new people, and try new things.

Here are four reasons why taking an international trip with your kids is worth the effort:

  1. It’ll teach them about new cultures and customs.
  2. They’ll learn to be independent and adaptable.
  3. It’ll give you quality one-on-one time with each of your kids.
  4. You’ll create unforgettable memories together.

As a single parent, you may feel like you have to go it alone when it comes to planning and funding a trip, but there are plenty of resources available to help make the process easier. With a little bit of research and planning, you can give your children an experience they’ll never forget.

Single parent holiday with a baby or a toddler

If you’re a single or solo parent, traveling with a baby or a toddler, your trip will be a lot smoother with a little preparation. There are plenty of great destinations that are both family-friendly and single-parent friendly.

When it comes to lodging, many hotels and resorts offer babysitting services, so you can have some much-needed adult time. All-inclusive resorts can be a great option for single parents, as they typically offer kid-friendly activities and meals as part of the package price.

When planning your trip, be sure to consider the age of your child and whether or not you’ll need a travel crib or other baby gear. If you’re breastfeeding, pack enough formula or pumped milk for the journey. And finally, don’t forget to pack plenty of diapers, wipes, and snacks for both you and your little one.

To make your trip easier, you may wish to invest in some good quality travel gear. A comfortable stroller is a must, and a baby carrier can be very helpful when you’re navigating busy airports or crowded streets.

And, it’s always a good idea to pack a few extra clothes and snacks, just in case.

For toddlers, you may also wish to pack some of their favourite toys and blanket.

It is also a good idea to bring an ipad or a charger for your phone so that your little one can play games or watch their favourite shows.

One thing that I found super helpful while travelling with my son when he was 2-3 years old was a leash.  Airports are such busy places and whilst you are trying to navigate the crowds with luggage, your toddler can easily disappear.

I remember getting stuck at Heathrow airport overnight, as we missed our connecting flight due to poor weather.  I was exhausted, but junior was full of beans.    All the hotels near the airport were full and I couldn’t face travelling to a hotel further out, only to stay for a couple of hours before having to return to the airport.

So we found a quiet carpeted spot and settled in for the night.  I was worried that junior could wake up while I was asleep and take off.  So I attached him to my hand with a leash and that way I knew, he couldn’t go exploring.

Amazon has some great products, which will make your trip easier.

Single parent holiday with a child

With a little planning, travelling with your child can be an incredibly rewarding experience, which will help you create amazing memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when travelling with a child is to maintain a flexible schedule. This will allow you to account for any potential tantrums or meltdowns, and will also give you some wiggle room if your child isn’t feeling well.

It’s also important to pack light, as this will make it easier to get around.

And finally, don’t forget to take advantage of family-friendly activities and amenities wherever you go. From children’s menus at restaurants to kids’ clubs at hotels, there are plenty of resources available to help make your trip a success. So go ahead and explore the world with your little one – you’ll be glad you did.

When my son was 5 years old I took him to Hawaii.  Our flight was overnight, which meant junior slept for much of the trip, so the 9 hours on the plane went reasonably quickly.

As we were in a new environment I booked a room which had a king size bed, rather than 2 singles.  That way junior could feel safe sleeping next to me.

Prior to our trip I found activities and places we could go to make the most of our stay there.  I have always loved dolphins and wanted to share a dolphin experience with Jordan.  I found out that Sealife Park offered dolphin encounters for young children, so I booked the experience for us.

At first he was a little afraid of the huge creature, but when he saw other children interacting, he bravely put his hand out and got his first dolphin kiss.

It was a very special memory, I will cherish forever.

Single parent holiday with a teenager

One of the great joys of parenting is being able to share your love of travel with your children.  Here are a few tips to help make the experience more enjoyable for both you and your teen.

First, remember to pack patience and flexibility. Things will inevitably go wrong at some point, so try to roll with the punches.

Second, make sure you choose a destination that will appeal to your teen’s interests. If they’re into history, visit a city with lots of museums and historical sites. Or if they’re into adventure, consider somewhere with hiking or whitewater rafting.

Finally, give your teen some space and independence. Let them explore on their own for a few hours each day, and don’t hover too much.

By giving them a sense of autonomy, you’ll help create lasting memories for both of you. Solo parenting can be tough, but travelling with your teenager can be a rewarding experience if you approach it with the right attitude.

When my son was 15, I took him on a trip to Canada.  One of the places I was keen to show him were Niagara Falls.  I thought he would be in awe of this natural wonder, but instead, he was focused on playing Pokemon Go on his phone.

At first, I was a little disappointed that he wasn’t appreciating the beauty of the falls, until he came to me all excited that he caught a rare Pokemon.

He then explained that what makes the game so captivating is that it uses your phone location services and camera allowing you to catch Pokemon in real life.

When you walk around the streets, your avatar moves inside the game.  It encourages you to explore your surroundings in a fun way.

I quickly realized that even though he was engrossed in the game for some of the time, he was learning about Niagara Falls in his own way.

Traveling with a teenager can be a great way to bond and create lasting memories. However, it’s important to remember that teenagers are individuals with their own likes, dislikes, and interests.

As such, it’s often best to let them come up with ideas on where to go and things to see. Making your teenager feel like they have a say in the trip can go a long way towards making it enjoyable for everyone. So next time you’re planning a trip, consider letting your teenager take the lead in choosing.

Single parent holiday tips

Being a single parent doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the family vacations you always dreamed of taking. With a little careful planning, you can make the most of your time and create lasting memories for you and your children. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Plan your holiday well in advance so you have plenty of time to prepare and make arrangements.
  • Start by asking your friends and family for suggestions. They may have just the right spot in mind for your needs.
  • Do some research online and read reviews from other single parents who have travelled with their children.
  • Choose a destination that is family-friendly and has activities that will appeal to your children.
  • Pack light – you will have enough to carry without having to lug around heavy suitcases.
  • Make sure you have all the necessary documents (passports, visas, etc.) in order before you leave.
  • Inform your child’s school or daycare about your upcoming trip so they can give you lessons and homework for your child to complete.
  • If possible, travel during the off-peak season to avoid crowds and get better deals on accommodations and airfare.
  • Book a hotel room that has kitchenette facilities so you can prepare meals for your family instead of eating out all the time.
  • Research childcare options at your destination in case you need a break from parenting duties for a few hours.
  • Find out if there are any organized tours, special events or activities specifically for families with children.
  • Bring along some favourite toys, books, or games to keep your kids entertained during down times or long travel days.
  • Make sure you have ample spending money to cover incidentals like snacks, souvenirs, and unexpected expenses.
  • Give yourself some “me time” every day – even if it’s just taking a few minutes to relax in the hotel room while the kids are napping.
  • Don’t try to do too much – it’s okay to take it easy on vacation and just enjoy each other’s company without overscheduling.
  • Be prepared for the fact that things may not always go according to plan – go with the flow and don’t stress out if things don’t go perfectly smooth all the time.
  • Most importantly, relax and have fun! After all, that’s what vacations are all about! single parent vacation tips
  • If traveling overseas, make sure you have adequate travel insurance in case you or your children get sick.
